Tanker Shuttle Training

Last night the members of Wellsville Fire Company got together with several other surrounding fire companies to participate in a tanker shuttle training. This is how rural fire companies provide water for large fires since there are no hydrant systems on city water. We use "dry" hydrants that are installed at ponds and pull a draft to suction the water out of the pond. The water is then transferred to the tankers who haul it (some times several miles) to the fire scene and empty it by dumping into a portable pond where the water is then transferred to the engine(s) fighting the fire. They make as many trips as are necessary until the fire is out. We would like to thank Ski Roundtop and all of the fire companies that participated. Please check out the Training Photo Gallery for more pictures.
